until the very last minute - true laziness. The meal consisted of bread honey jam and coffee. After appell the cook and “stooge” clean our room wash the morning dishes while the rest of us made our beds and then began waiting for lunch. Lunch served at noon was sandwiches, coffee and some hot substance such as soup, coooked barley, spuds, saurkraut which was supplied by the German and cooked in a communal kitchen where hot water for brews was also drawn. Again at 1500 we had tea which was consisted of jam cheese and tea or coffee (usually tea due to English influence).

All through the day the cook and ‘stooge’ have been preparing our dinner, at 2000, to be cooked during
