105b John TREFETHEN (of Garland, ME)

Events:

A John TREFETHEN settled on Lot 11, range 2 about 1806 when there were few people in the area. Was in Twp. 3 with Silas Libbee, Jos. & Jacob Garland, & 42 others. Was chosen at town meeting (1812) as a selectman & assessor. Was then qualified to vote for governor & other officials. In 1818 he was again a selectman & assessor, plus was on the superattending school committee ^{[From Source 36: HIST. OF GARLAND ME by Lyndon Oak]}.
In 1820 he & others were selected to find and purchase 1 acre for a cemetery. In 1829 he was one of 42 men on the Free Will Baptist Church list in Garland (Henry Amazeen & John Batchelder were also listed).
The following notes are from Source 129: 'I Mehebell⁰²⁷⁷ a masien impower my father John⁰¹⁰⁵ TREFETHEN to transact my afaires to the west as he shall think proper as the law directs.' ^{[Rock. Co. Probate Docket #7419]}.
1845: Sold land in Exeter, New Hampshire to Marshall Sawyer as follows:

John TREFETHEN of Garland, County of Penobscot (ME), yeoman. $100.00 paid by Marshall Sawyer of Garland - sells land in Exeter, Penobscot Co, ME - 16 acres of the west part of lot #12 in 12 range of lots in Exeter to be taken off between the south line of said lot & the county road running through the northerly part of said Lot & by a line running paralell (sic) with the west line thereof & at such distance therefrom now as to include 16 acres.

Two very seperate family group sheets compiled from family members of long ago show him as son of "the Preacher" John of Cornville & Susan Kennistone (or whatever). [Source: Carrie TREFETHEN Chart & C.F..D. Marsh Chart]
The Marsh Chart lists him as a"half brother"of Abraham¹¹¹⁸, indicating that he was probably the son of an earlier, deceased Trefethen
'Of Guilford, ME'
Was a Private in Captain D. Flander’s Company, Lieutenant Colonel J. Waugh's Regiment from Sept. 14 to 24th, 1814. Raised at Cornville, Maine (probably where he resided) and camped at Waterville to await orders.
NOTE: Abe⁰⁸⁵⁴ served exact times & place.

Both he and wife are buried in Pine Grove Cemetery, West Kennebunk, Maine ^{[Source 129]}.
