Moved to Wilmington, California in 1881 where he worked for the Wilmington
Transportation Company for 27 years
He then moved to San Francisco where he was given charge of the tugboats FALCON and WARRIOR, and passenger steamers HERMOSA and CABRILLO. The 'HERMOSA' carried tourists from San Pedro, California to the Catalina Islands.
He, with others in his family, died during a flu epidemic.
Buried in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Los Angeles, California
