He was obviously someone who knew how to stay busy: in 1895 he became a partner in his father’s fish business, eventually taking over. He was also the director of the Independent Cold Storage & Ice Company of Newport, Rhode Island, President of the Portland Cold Storage Company, President of the Trefethen & Webster Lumber Company, Treasurer of Spear Auto Company, member of Cobb & Trefethen (a retail fish company), a Selectman during 1898 - 1900, and South Portland's Mayor during 1901 - 1902 (Republican).
If this information is correct, he has a twin brother, #1299, Newell Fales TREFETHEN.
15 October 2021 Peter Dresser writes: It was Charles Newell Trefethen who was the Mayor of South Portland. His family was in the fish processing business out on House Island and owned what I think is now the Harbor Fish Market in Portland. They may have had that warehouse on the end of Commercial pier and sold lobsters. the family rumor mill has Newt winding up in jail for some unspecified crime, and later committing suicide after the family fortune went South.
FindaGrave has Newt being born in 1860 and dying in 1925. His grave is located in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery in South Portland, Maine.

Peter Dresser writes: His daughter, Phyllis, was my grandmother who married Leon DRESSER from Millet, Fish, and Dresser - a Portland accounting firm. They had a son, Richard DRESSER, who was my father. He married Mohawk Libby's daughter - who pitched for the Portland Mohawks - which was Portland's top baseball team at the time. Phyllis died in Portland, Cumberland, Maine.
