His son Thaddeus was born in New Castle, New Hampshire in 1842 [MA SOUNDEX] and Hirem is on a list of Newcastle Abatements in 1843 [S36:Newcastle Town Accounts], so he must have lived there for a spell.
Was listed as a Mariner, residing at 27 Gates Street, Portsmouth, New Hampshire, in a 1851 Directory.
Pilot having branches for the Harbor of Piscataqua. (1851 list of merchant vessels).
Wife was residing on High St., Charlestown, Massachusetts when she died there on 25 July 1861, aged 40, of Typhoid Fever. [S36:MA DEATH RECS].
