Events:
Born probably in Kittery, Maine
Resident of Kittery, Maine
His nephew L. F. Tref. writes: 'He'd row over to the Island where there were girls, and on the way back he'd tow home a log for firewood. Slept off many a drink in one of the upstairs rooms in the big house. One of the worse alcoholics of all time; but no wonder with his father selling Liquor during prohibition. '
'At the Parks Murder Trial, Alfred, Maine, 3 days and a verdict of guilty'... with James, Annie, and Charles as star witnesses!'
Source 36 has wife as Laura McGrath, whom I have as widow of #0047. At this writing, it appears there were two Laura McGraths in this family.
In Jan. of 1894 or '99 (obscured date) a Mrs. Mary E. Tarlton (described as 'poor, old, and defenseless) was assaulted and killed by a 'drunken robber' in her Kittery home. She was struck on the head by a molasses bottle which broke upon impact, and then the assailant continued to gouge her face and head. He afterwards ransacked her house, but was scared off by a visitor and gained a little more that $20. for his efforts. The old lady had enough life in her to accuse one Frank Parks of the crime. However, when Mr. Parks was captured, he had no money. Officials then suspected he had an accomplice and shortly after arrested a Charles TREFETHEN at his Newmarch St. home. Charles had been seen earlier with Mr. Parks and after the robbery he was reported to be 'spending money quite free.' He was held overnight but I don’t believe he was taken to court. Mary Tarlton was actually a TREFETHEN! For the gross details see Mary E. TREFETHEN0132
